ABBEY RANGERS 2-1 BATTERSEA IRONSIDES

The Ironsides dominated the game from the start, but were unable to turn possession into goals, with several chances not being taken. They were then made to pay for this in the last minute of the first half, when the left winger of Abbey Rangers converted a one-on-one chance to put them a goal up. The Ironsides were level in the second minute of the second half, when Roy Smithen rose at the far post from an Ernie Kendal free kick to nod home from close range. The last 20 minutes saw the team run out of steam, and after failing to take advantage of their possession, 10 minutes from time, a mistake at the back presented Abbey Rangers with a gift of a goal to put them 2-1 up. This was the Ironsides first defeat of the season, and after a shaky start to the campaign, improvement is expected over the coming weeks.
